Committees

NAILD’s goal is to evolve and change the lighting industry and we couldn’t do that without our committees! Joining a committee is one of the best ways to get the most out of your NAILD membership – if interested in joining a committee, contact NAILD today for more info. Take a look at some of the work our amazing committees have done recently:

Dark Sky Committee

The Dark Sky Committee was developed in 2021 as there was a clear need to create awareness on the topic and educate the industry on the Five Principles of Responsible Outdoor Lighting set out by the illuminating Engineering Society (IES). The committee was apprised of the Dark Sky Vendor Advisory Committee made up of technical and product managers from companies who manufacture outdoor lighting fixtures and control systems with the goal of submitting a one-page abstract summarizing the thrust of the meeting along with a simple technical memo setting out practical concerns and marketing guidance. For more info, view the Vendor Dark Sky Committee Open Letter as well as the Distributor Dark Sky Committee Open Letter which presents six strategies to encourage the wide-scale adoption of Dark Sky-Friendly Lighting systems.

Social Media Committee

The Social Media Committee was developed in 2021 to help educate our members of how to best utilize Digital Marketing. They came together to learn the best platforms to expand their reach of viewers, figure out the “algorithm” for targeted ads, and share this knowledge with our members. They developed a 2-part plan; first, our LinkedIn Profile Builder which is a program to increase your LinkedIn connections and second, a content creator to share your product/services/content to your new connections.

Sustainability Committee

The Sustainability Committee was developed in 2022 after the realization of the lighting industry creating an unsustainable, single-use commodity fixture in a mad rush to create better lamps and luminaires. The committee’s goal was to construct a plan to recommit to legacy form factors, standardize new components, commit to more sustainable materials, long-term product support and useful, transparent labeling. In doing so, they wrote an open letter to be distributed to the manufacturers, vendors, accreditation agencies, regulators, distributors, and contractors of the lighting industry.
